The Unofficial Eliza Carthy Webpage

New Eliza Carthy Site here

Finally, someone with a bit of time on their hands has created a new site for Eliza. It's dark, shiney, and has movable flaps. Check it out down on www.eliza-carthy.com

An update? EGAD!>!>!> Autumn 06

Aye, I've finally pulled me finger out and installed a new bulletin board system. Enjoy one and all, enjoy. There's stacks of new things happening at the moment - check Waterson:Carthy.com for full details! Liza touring with Saul, WatersonCarthy gigs, new CDs, loads of stuff.

CD's with your veg? Eh?!?

Yes, Sainsbury's have finally folded to the pressure and are stocking Liza's Rough Music (and possibily a load of other family titles). Prices are apparantly VERY good, and they're selling well, so if you need to get your mitts on a copy, check to see if your local store is stocking it. For a full list, check HERE on the Official Family site.

New Piccies

Got a couple o' pics from the latest photoshoot for Eliza Carthy and the Ratcatchers ... check the Gallery.

Rough Music

Finally, the new album is about ready. After a few months in and around the studio at their house in the Borders (Bamboo Byre Studios), Eliza, Ben, John and Jon have created their next masterpiece! Entitled “Rough Music”, it’s going to be found under the “Eliza Carthy and the Ratcatchers” section in your CD shop soon. There’s one new tune on this, a cover of a Billy Bragg number, and the rest are re-worked traditional tunes and songs. Eliza mentions that there’s also a trombone player making suspicious noises on the abum (courtesty of Laura McDonald from Edinburgh) – this should be available before the tour with Sharon Shannon starts. Speaking of which …. Message Board - NEW!! Oooooo!

Eliza and Sharon Shannon Tour

This multi-date tour is formed from a Anglo – Irish concept, providing some English and Celtic crossover. Full dates and details are on the gigs page. Please also note that the first two dates(celtic Connections & Cheltenham Folk Festival) are Sold Out

Liza on Mark Radcliffe still

Liza's been appearing on the Mark Radcliffe show for a few years now- the next appearance is on Feb 16th - Radio 2.

World Music work.

Eliza is to be working with the Sage, Gateshead in the next year when Womex comes to visit. She will be organizing some Anglo / World crossover discussions and music – more details when we get them!

World Music Awards

On March the 5th, Eliza is to be working with Benjamin Zephenia at the BBC Radio 3 / BBC4 Awards for World Music. The duo are presenting the show – set your reminders now!

Mark Radcliffe Show

Eliza is still working every few weeks on the Mark Radcliffe show, doing occasional tunes, reviews of movies, and brewing up. She’s set to be on the show on Jan the 11th, so tune into Radio 2 then, or listen via the website www.bbc.co.uk/radio2.

DanceBand

The PloughStotts (a longsword dance band) have had Eliza playing for them for a while now, and they’re off to the Czech republic in February for a week, playing a festival and travelling the area. This could possibly be the Komna festival – we’re checking details.

Eliza Carthy Band Tour gets bigger!

The Band are off promoting the new album in a great many places. As well as the Sharon Shannon double-headliner tour, they’re off to Budapest in August. We’ll confirm where and when as soon as we can.

Imagined Village Project.

The man of no hair, Simon Emmerson from the AfroCelts is heading a project combining folk and rock musicians. Rumour has it that Martin Carthy and Paul Weller have already recorded a version of John Barleycorn, and with names to the bill including PJ Harvey and Benjamin Zephania – this is going to be a treat for the ears! It’s a long term project though – don’t be expecting it any time soon!

Liza to Wed?

Vicious rumours are circulating of Liza getting hitched to Damon Albern. Apparantly there was a punch-up to decide who was getting to be the official bridesmaids, and the last two standing were George Cluny and Ozzy Osbourne. For some reason which dispells belief, Brian Ferry (not Martin Carthy), is to give Liza away. Oh, and Bad Manners are playing the reception. Possibly.

New Official Website

Ok, I admit it's been pretty quiet here of late. That's partially due to Liza having a suspiciously busy year off, but we've also written a new Official web presence for Waterson:Carthy and all of it's members. Have a shufty at www.watersoncarthy.com for all the lurvly stuff we've got over there. There's also details of LOADS of new Liza gigs - including a full tour in the new year. I'll get the dates on here when I get chance!
